Taxonomy update schedule for 2023
Lightcast uses multiple taxonomies from external providers - These are updated periodically and we need to ensure that updates are incorporated into our products. This requires co-ordination between Taxonomy, Classifiers, Models and LMI teams.
Deadlines for ultimate release of updated taxonomies in product are frequently determined by third party providers publishing data in updated taxonomies - Meaning that until our postings data is updated accordingly, comparison between Lightcast data and government LMI is not possible.
The table below shows the order of priorities for updating taxonomy versions in 2023.
Taxonomy (with version) | Release date (End of Quarter) | Release during PI | LMI imposed release deadline (where applicable) | Location affected | Jira Epic | Business driver | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
LOT v6 | 1 | 2 | na | UK | Taxonomy update - New data | LOT v6 on UK English language postings. Released through all outlets. Analyst needs to be ready for taxonomy that has multiple concept labels per concept ID (names in different languages) | |
NOC 2021 | 2 | 3 | May-23 | CA | https://economicmodeling.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DPM/pages/2485125143 | Taxonomy update - New data | Canada NOC coding is currently based on a bad crosswalk from ONET-SOC and hasn't been updated since 2011 version of the taxonomy. This update to coding - via LOT SpecOcc and a crosswalk with rules to disambiguate, will represent a huge improvement. QA to consist of comparisons with existing data and change notes, combined with specific success stories in improvements in coding - The āmissingā NOC codes highlighted in the new data. |
O*NET 2019 | 2 | 3/4 | na | US | https://economicmodeling.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DPM/pages/2483191866 | Efficiency and revenue savings - Bypass Nova | Lower priority than Canada NOC because we already have a way of coding to O*NET-SOC 2019 in our postings data, so no real value add except internal efficiency, moving off NOVA. |
NAICS 2022 | 2 | 3 | Jul-23 | US | Taxonomy update - New data | LMI team leading on this - Hard deadline imposed by them. | |
UK SOC 2020 | 3 | 4/5 | Sep-23 | UK | https://economicmodeling.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DPM/pages/2485682200 | Taxonomy update - New data - Also bypass Nova | Office for National Statistics has already released Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings ASHE in SOC 2020, so this update is required. LMI team aiming for September. Postings will be coded using the same methodology as employed for NOC 2021. Resource crunch getting this and O*NET-SOC out at the same time. |
LOT v6 | 3 | 4/5 | na | AU/NZ/SG | https://economicmodeling.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DPM/pages/2482339864 | Taxonomy update - New data | Moving AU/NZ/SG to LOT is important as part of the broader project to get them onto Lightcast pipeline. Likely that the UK LOT classifier will get postings most of the way there. |
ANZSCO 2021 | 3 | 4/5 | na | AU/NZ | https://economicmodeling.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DPM/pages/2480963647 | Taxonomy update - New data - Also bypass Nova | Release date imposed by Core Site - Very challenging timeline, work likely to be done in parallel with assistance of other teams - such as AR. Similar lift to NOC above, once LOT classifier is up and running in AU/NZ/SG. |
SSOC 2020 | 3 | 4/5 | na | SG | Taxonomy update - New data - Also bypass Nova | Release date imposed by Core Site - Very challenging timeline, work likely to be done in parallel with assistance of other teams - such as AR. Similar lift to NOC above, once LOT classifier is up and running in AU/NZ/SG. Other LOT related work: Crosswalks between LOT and Government occupation taxonomies will be available in each location, to answer client queries and generally illustrate how our taxonomy relates to those that clients may be more familiar withy. We currently have LOT v6 crosswalked to:
O*NET 2019
UK SOC 2010
UK SOC 2020
ISCO 08
Canada NOC 2016
Canada NOC 2021 (in development)
For future development, crosswalks will be created from LOT v6 to:
Legacy EMSI Global Occupations
ANZSCO 2021
SSOC 2020
Please contact @Hal Bonella for access to any of these crosswalks.
