Customer/User Job-to-be-Done or Problem

As an Institutional Researcher or Marketer, I want to access and use skills data without needing either in-depth knowledge of the subject material, or the aid of my busy academic team.

Any Skillabi user regardless of knowledge level or expertise should be able to see relevant skill insights.

Value to Customers & Users

  • Removes the “barrier to entry” that selecting Program Benchmarks creates for viewing Market Alignment insights.

  • Introduces CIP Code crosswalks into the data for a direct comparison between Skillabi and our other offerings like Analyst.

  • Creates a “baseline” set of outcomes to compare and contrast skill based outcome matching against.

Value to Lightcast

  • Allows for easier integrations to other offerings in the future.

  • Maintains consistent availability of data across products

  • Opens up Skillabi’s main value driver to a wider audience at institutions

Target User Role/Client/Client Category

Marketers, Institutional Researchers and Faculty Members who are not necessarily familiar enough with a given program to self select outcomes for comparison.

Delivery Mechanism

Skillabi Platform Update

Success Criteria & Metrics

Users can easily see our Taught VS Sought skills analysis for any given program and be confident that the information provided is at least relevant and usable without having to already know what outcomes the program is designed to teach for.

  • Looking to see greatly increased adoption measured by Pendo

    • Current Baseline: 37.7%

    • Target in combination with Market Alignment Workflow Update: 60%

  • Skillabi becomes more widely used at each institution.

    • Difficult to measure directly as institutions tend to vary greatly in size and scope.

    • Will measure by Average active users and average days active

      • Baseline over 90 days: 2.24 average active users and 8.6 average active days

      • Target: 3.5 active users and 10 average active days

Solution Description

  • If a CIP Code has been assigned to a program, we will pre-set a Benchmark for that program that will reflect the CIP to GOT crosswalk.

    • We plan to also include an option for CIP to SOC if so desired.

  • There will additionally be the option to compare against CIP Code matched options (Default), Skill Matched Outcomes, or to explore other outcomes.

Non-Functional Attributes & Usage Projections

Dependencies

  • Dependent on CIP to LOT crosswalk for LOT v6.

    • This is planned to be released in Q4-2022

  • Dependent on CIP Code integration to Skillabi.

    • Completed

  • Dependent on the Curricular Skill Tagging team’s ability to “pre-tag” programs with CIP codes.

    • Planning to use the same tools as the Raptor team when building sites for Career Coach.

Legal and Ethical Considerations

No

High-Level Rollout Strategies

  • Initial rollout will be to all customers with an in-tool Pendo Guide to accompany it. This will help guide users through the new workflow.

  • Individual stories in this epic will be placed behind a feature flag to prevent partial implementation causing confusion.

  • Success and Sales will be briefed prior to release, so that they can properly communicate the changed workflow to customers and prospects.

  • Monitor Feature Usage, Account Activity, and Feedback post launch.

Risks

There is some risk that using CIP Code matching, especially as the default option, will give the impression that we are becoming less innovative with the information provided in Skillabi.

  • This has been expressed by at least one customer and internally, but I believe the benefits of lowering the barrier to entry and giving useful results to a wider group of users outweigh this risk.

Open Questions

How will this Epic best fit in with the Market Alignment Workflow Update?

What can and should be done separately and what must be done in tandem?
